The inspiration for “Wake Me Up” started with Avicii playing around with a melody with Mike Einziger (Incubus) in the studio before calling Aloe Blacc. Blacc made it over in no time at all and was able to write the lyrics for the song in the matter of a few hours.
Avicii also talks about taking a risk in the industry, when there’s so much competition. While some may not love “Wake Me Up”, you have to admit that it is radically different than what everyone is currently putting out. He says that the whole thing came together organically, that there really wasn’t a plan to do this or make a statement.
Avicii also goes on to say that making an album was a personal dream of his. He wants TRUE to be an album that’s kind of like a story or something. We’ll have to wait and see when TRUE is released this September.
