A highly-respected musician in the industry, esteemed DJ/producer, Avicii has been on a roll as of late, having recently purchased himself an opulent mansion in Los Angeles (for a solid $15 million, might we add!), as well as been busy in the studio with none other than Pop-music icon, Madonna. After a massive summer where his hit track “Wake Me Up” soared to remarkable heights of success, it has been no surprise that the song also dominated the Billboard Hot Dance/Electronic Songs chart, having maintained its position at #1 for a striking 26 weeks.
It seems as though no one else has been able to outdo Avicii apart from Avicii himself, as “Wake Me Up” has only been knocked down to the #2 spot by his other highly-successful single, “Hey Brother”, which has sold an impressive 74,000 downloads (up 3% according to Nielsen SoundScan). This track is also #2 on Billboard’s Dance/Electronic Streaming Songs list, as well as #3 on the Dance/Electronic Digital Songs ranking, on which the top spot is held by The Chainsmokers’ viral tune, “#SELFIE”.
2014 has already been a phenomenal year for the 24-year-old Swede, with his international “True” tour having kicked off in January, and a scheduled performance at Ultra Music Festival in two weeks time. Dance music fans will remember Avicii’s unconventional Ultra set from 2013, in which he debuted “Wake Me Up”, evoking a mixed reaction from the crowd (much of which was flummoxed by Avicii’s sudden transition into country-sounding music), and will be eagerly waiting to see what he has in store this year.
