Patrick Ajoscha Scheffler aka DJ Static, aka Ayosha, has gone by many names over the years. He is well known for being the head of Vibekingz, a group of German hip hop artists and DJs. Vibekingz gained notoriety in 2006 when their hit song “Like The Wind”, reached #2 in German charts. Since then, DJ Static has remained relatively quiet over the years. DJ Static has mainly been operating from behind the scenes. He has helped rapper “Nitro” finish his hit single “Perhaps Love Rosie, For Always”. Also, he’s credited for co-writing and producing Ray J’s hit single, “Curtains Closed”.
Ayosha marked his return only weeks ago with the release for his latest single “Burning Bridges”. The catchy single ft Tihamer features some deep vibes that give off an ominous feel. RaverRafting had the pleasure of talking to Ayosha about what he has been up to lately. Check out our full interview with the multi-talented German producer below!
1. Where does your musical expertise come from?
I started as a DJ when I was 15 years old. I always loved to see people dance in a club. When I was 16 a friend and I started a make music in his little home studio. The goal was to reach people with our talent. After we split, I had my first record deal and the song went up to number 2 in the german media control charts. Being a Dj for 17 years and a producer for 16 years gives me the expertise to see what most of the people love to hear. My production know-how came from learning by doing.
2. How did you get involved in dance music?
I really like music that people can dance to. When I was 5 my sister used to play me some Whitney Houston and Bobby Brown stuff. I think that „I Wanna Dance With Somebody“ was the first song that I remember somebody dancing to. So my sister is the reason why I love music that people can dance to.
3. Seems like you are mixing German dance elements with global dance elements, do you see it similarly or do you have a different goals?
I’m not the kind of guy that likes to put something into a box. If someone thinks that I combine german dance elements with global dance elements, I’m cool with it. Somebody else told me that „Burning Bridges“ sounds like The Weeknd vs. Major Lazer plus a harder bass and I’m really happy with that too. It’s an honor for me. If people start to compare your music with other artists or genres, it’s always a good look and I’m proud of that. My goal was to create something new, something never heard before. I love unique electro sounds and I love vocals. Especially urban vocals. My sound is a combination. That’s why I call it urban electro music (uem).
4. What other artists inspired you to start this sound?
Coming from a urban background, my biggest inspiration is Teddy Riley. He created a unique sound and his own genre „New Jack Swing“.
I start playing the talkbox because of him and Roger Troutman. Soundwise I’m open to every genre cause I love everything that is unique.
5. What was the first dance music song you listened to?
Like I said the first Song I remember was Whitney Houston – I Wanna Dance With Somebody.
But the really first dance song I felt in love with was:
Robin S. – Show Me Love
6. If you could have a musical career at any other time in history, would you?
I think everything happens for reason and that is why I’m here now.
But if I could play a little “back to the future” I would tell doc to beam me back to the early / mid 90’s in a studio session with Teddy Riley and Dr Dre. Just to have the experience.
