If you are into the type of sounds labels like mau5trap and Anjunabeats release regularly, or even just enjoy good-vibing house music broadly, soak up some what Bad Disk has unleashed to the world. No Spaces EP is a 3 track escapade that is versatile, melancholy in several ways, and showcases the pathology Bad Disk is on at the moment. Releasing on rising experimental house label Emercive Recordings, the 3-tracks “Five,” “No Spaces,” and “Flick,” have connective tissue between as an EP should, yet each speak their own story that make them easy to get attached to.
Blending in a theme of corrupted computer files, blue screens of death, and an eerie feel of technology-gone-wrong, the sonic aspect of house pallets nicely to the takeaways the branding communicates.
Starting single, “Five,” gets the listener entranced with groovy vibes and steady basslines. Sustained synth-work and more deliver the vibey electro house within and prime you for the dark house sensibilities to come. “No Spaces,” follows a similar nature as “Five,” thus giving a bit more rhythm to this track. All around fresh and incentivizing you to catch the nuances built in, this mid-way track finds it’s spot in this EP nicely.
In collaboration with Spectral Friends, the work undoubtedly combines the best of both artists into one track, “Flick.” This last single off No Spaces EP is elongated, trippy, and the hardest hitting of them all. Filled with steady build-ups and raw electro-house energy, the track closes with grace and leave the listeners wanting more.
Emercive Recordings picked up something proper here and Bad Disk found a fitting family. No Spaces EP contains plenty of traits that are a positive contribution to the genres it incorporates, with plenty of time-testing elements within.
