“I wanted to create an album full of music I love. I wanted to have fun, play games, tell jokes. I wanted to make insane bangers, and also to explore deep sonic journeys… and everything in between.”
On April 2, Lorin Ashton took to Facebook to give his diehard group of fans an update on his highly anticipated upcoming album. Because Bassnectar had been the grid for the better part of 2014 to work on new material, the news was unforeseen but certainly welcomed with open arms by fans and the entire music community alike.
In the update, the always well spoken Ashton gave his loving fans an intimate step-by-step look into the album-making process. With exciting transparency like this, it isn’t hard to wonder why he is one of the most beloved figures in the electronic community today. Breaking down, “remixing,” collabing, and “re-remixing” his own tracks all in effort to put out a genre defying product is one of the many reasons Bassnectar as an artist stands out from the rest of the crowd.
Get excited for this full-length album. Get very excited. With his summer schedule jam-packed with a festival run unlike many others, Lorin is sure to both debut and provide live mixes of a handful of these unreleased tracks in a way only he knows how to do. Catch him at Summer Camp, EDCNY, Red Rocks, Wakarusa, Paradiso, Shambhala, and the recently announced Hudson Music Project this summer to get a first-hand taste of what’s coming our way later this summer.
Take a close look at the bottom of the screenshot under the “WILD CARD” category and you will notice the “Frog Song” and “Butterfly VIP” on the list. Always a staple of his live shows, Bass Heads are sure to be holding their collective breaths hoping for these two gems to make the final cut. Regardless of the outcome, the only certainty is another meticulously produced work of art from Ashton. One that, in my mind, can’t come soon enough.
