Last Wednesday, May 7, Lorin Ashton shared with the world his new track “Now.” It proved to be the first taste of Bassnectar’s upcoming album NVSB and did nothing to squash the anticipation of its release date, June 24. The next day on Twitter Lorin stated “The beauty of a 15 song album is there’s something for everyone. Next up is “Ephemeral” which you will receive from a friend :).” Holding true to his word, today seems to be the day as he released “Ephemeral” via an email to the Ambassadors.
Putting to bed any potential unease felt by some fans with the “trappy-ness” of “Now”, “Ephemeral” is the beautiful Nectar we have all come to love so fervently. With a haunting-yet-soothing intro and a trademark Bassnectar bassline lagging not far behind, this one is sure to please the diehards. “Ephemeral” is easy on the ears and calls back to the sounds on Divergent Spectrum or even Underground Communication from 2007.
A message from Lorin:
“Hello! Here is a gift of music! It’s called ‘Ephemeral’ (which means temporary, or “lasting only a day”…it’s the opposite of ‘Eternal’ and captures the essence of how precious every little moment is, and to enjoy it to the fullest) and I began working on it over 10 years ago. Each song off the upcoming record is totally unique from the other songs, representing one specific point across a very diverse spectrum. There is of course hard vs soft, deep vs wild, ugly vs pretty, dark vs light, noise vs beauty, and so on 😉 This song represents one of the warmest, softest, sweetest directions of my love affair with music: when it is light, and whimsical, and emotional – and reminds me to be grateful for every last detail in life. You can do whatever you want with this song: share it with friends or family, or hoard it for yourself, whatever you feel. Thanks and Enjoy!”
With these first two releases, I personally could not be any more excited for the release of NVSB. The diversity of these two tracks only builds my anticipation as June 24 approaches, for what I believe to be the impending release of the best album of 2014. Buckle in and take a listen below to Lorin’s latest piece of art, and be sure to keep on the lookout for upcoming previews off the album. All hail the bass-god!
