Update: Bassnectar never meant to take shots at Steve Aoki, Sander van Doorn or Laidback Luke. He stated via Twitter that he was focused on a different point, not necessarily the artists in the video.
@bassnectar This is totally taken out of context. It’s 1.5 minute of us playing a song, DJing non pressured at poolside.

@bassnectar Here’s my response to it, playing the same song. I work hard in clubs man: http://t.co/K3PiH4Q8AP

@LaidbackLuke @_natmau5 fully agreed! i love dancing too & we all FEEL the music. just for me i am not impressed by the Milli Vanilli thing
— Lorin (@bassnectar) April 12, 2014
@bassnectar @_natmau5 Me neither man. And as an oldschool DJ I hear you on that. In our case, we really were chilling.
— Laidback Luke (@LaidbackLuke) April 12, 2014
yeah forget that video! pool parties = no rules!!! 😉 @LaidbackLuke is a great artist. i was talkin a totally different point and
— Lorin (@bassnectar) April 12, 2014
@bassnectar And I back you on that point. We gotta get DJs DJing again : )

Original Post:
Lorin Ashton, better known as Bassnectar, took a break from his finishing his long-awaited album to express his disappointment with DJs “who dance around behind a CD player” and the massive crowds they generate.
Bassnectar tweeted a video showing Laidback Luke, Steve Aoki and Sander Van Doorn behind the decks doing… well… not much of anything. The video is full of unnecessary knob twists, hands hovering over mixers and arms thrown in the air (the captioned commentary on the video is hilarious).
The footage seemed to disgust Bassnectar, who had this to say:
this shit is so typical: https://t.co/W33VfG5qQH i’d say its sad, but what’s more mind blowing to me is that huge EDM crowds cheer this on
— Lorin (@bassnectar) April 12, 2014
There’s a HUGE difference between what i love & that fake, phony, mainstream commercial mass-marketed EDM DJ thing. 2 different worlds… — Lorin (@bassnectar) April 12, 2014
i just wonder where are the ARTISTS & the FREAKS & the VISIONARIES… and why do EDM DJs just cheer themselves on behind a CD payer? — Lorin (@bassnectar) April 12, 2014
not trying to hate, but seriously… the EDM thing is so Millie Vanilli & those guys were MORTIFIED when they were exposed… — Lorin (@bassnectar) April 12, 2014
i guess it takes crowds and people who are discerning & educated & passionate & critical & aware cuz currently: it is an embarrassment. — Lorin (@bassnectar) April 12, 2014
i mean u don’t have to stop going out or stop loving music, just support all the rad underground artists who work so hard and are SO good — Lorin (@bassnectar) April 12, 2014
the ‘scene’ is what you make it, so when you support fake ass DJs who dance around behind a CD player, you’re just contributing to the prob — Lorin (@bassnectar) April 12, 2014
i can think of several hundred WICKED artists alive & touring today who deserve all the love in the world cuz they are gifted & work hard
— Lorin (@bassnectar) April 12, 2014
i hope you all start supporting them, and stop being so impressed by a guy air dancing and cheering for himself behind a CD player… 🙂
— Lorin (@bassnectar) April 12, 2014
and yes it’s not hating to speak the truth: i’m all about doing what you love & sharing that with your friends! But i also have to be honest — Lorin (@bassnectar) April 12, 2014
i’ve always liked the concept of Peace Love Unity & Respect in music. It’s out of RESPECT for music that i say this. zero hate. all love 🙂 — Lorin (@bassnectar) April 12, 2014
100% NOT calling out anyone in particular. Every good DJ FEELS IT & jumps around 🙂 that’s good. Go Buckwild! But 3 guys for 1 track = ?
— Lorin (@bassnectar) April 12, 2014
ok, this is why i don’t tweet haha…back into the mastering lab
— Lorin (@bassnectar) April 12, 2014
im a huge Laid Back Luke fan! 100% 🙂 and Steve is a buddy too! in general, i think i just don’t i’m very impressed by EDM 🙂
