Bassnectar can seem to do no wrong. He’s three months removed from the release of his biggest album to date, in the midst of a nationwide tour, the Noise vs. Beauty remix album is slowly trickling in track by track, and yet he still finds time to drop an out of the blue slice of bass perfection. Lorin’s latest track “Thursty” represents everything we’ve come to love about him; it’s heavy, full bass music that’s insanely fun to listen to.
I have this thing I do whenever I listen to music where I’m snapping my fingers and slapping my hands on the surface of a table or chair or whatever is nearby, drumming on my surroundings. I wanted to use this silly kind of snapping sample to build up into the most insane explosion, coming out of some kind of chopped-and-screwed hip-hop vocal.
The quote above was taken from his interview with Rolling Stone and it provides a glimpse of the song making process that was responsible for this beautiful monstrosity of sound. Collabing with up-and-coming producer Craz, Ashton keeps up with his ways of unearthing lesser known talent and catapulting them into the spotlight. Bassnectar is on top of his game right now, plain and simple. Churning out polished track after polished track, it’s going to be a treat for anyone rounding out 2014 at Basslights or Nashville.
