As we’ve said countless times, the residency is about variety. Many of the featured artists take this to heart and jam as much diversity as they can in their allotted times. This week, Bradley Zero takes the spotlight and shows us what the word eclectic is all about.
Bradley Zero has been pushing his unique sound for a long time. He has used his time as label boss and master of ceremonies at Rhythm Section as an opportunity to highlight artists all around the world. As one of the early promoters and biggest proponents of Boiler Room he helped open an avenue for musicians big and small to have their sound heard by huge swaths of people. Unlike many of our other residents, Bradley Zero is not a producer. Instead, he spends his time unearthing talents from all corners of the globe that embody the sound and vibe that Rhythm Section promotes.
Every edition of his show includes songs from acts he has discovered on his travels. Because of his most recent tour, he highlights a bunch of artists from Australia and New Zealand. It’s a globetrotting exercise that takes place far above the clouds as you float between continents sampling wide-ranging tunes from all over the world. The music is mellow and moody, dark and acidic (only a little), buoyant and calming, and finally a little bit jazzy. The show moves you along without rushing you, gently pushing to the next song but never swaying you out of the trance that Bradley Zero induces.
It’s a bit of a break from the hectic shows of the past and let’s you settle down and take it all in.
