Trance fans from the tri-state area flooded Washington D.C. on Friday, March 28th 2014. Anticipation loomed in the air inside Echostage, the largest live music venue in the nation’s capital and the #4 best club in the United States. The sold-out crowd anxiously awaited Above & Beyond to take the stage and transform the building into a heavenly space of music, love, and human connection.
The trance king trio opened with a Mat Zo track titled The Sky. Featuring ambient vocals from Linnea Schossow and a pulsating beat, the mood for the evening was set almost immediately as hands reached for the ceiling and bodies started to groove to the beat. Throughout the night Above & Beyond kept the energy high, rarely pausing between tracks.
We heard classic favorites like Sun and Moon, Alcehmy, and Black Room Boy along with a few newer tracks like Hello which were very well received by the audience. The lights and visuals throughout the night were top-notch. My favorite phrase that Above & Beyond projected read ‘Dreams Come True When You Follow Your Heart.’ Being my first time seeing A&B, I now understand the emotional connectivity so many people describe in these sets. I’ve never felt so moved by live music. The VIP tables on the upper mezzanine were full and the dance floor below was packed with people singing and dancing the entire night. This show 100% deserved to be on our list of don’t-miss-spring-shows at Echostage.
