Bonnie X Clyde Talk About Their New EP And Life Experiences At Okeechobee Arts & Music Festival

RaverRafting had the unequaled chance to sit down with Bonnie X Clyde at Okeechobee Arts and Music Festival. The humble duo chatted with us about life, and how in such a short amount of time they went from throwing basement parties to rocking stages at some pretty high end festivals. The media tent was getting blown away by some strong winds, but we were getting blown away with the passion of these two unique artists.

RR – You recently released Bass Jam is their a specific time in your life in which you have drawn inspiration for this song?

Bonnie – Yes! There are many times but specifically, I was really focusing on the fact that we have a lot of memories that we share because we went to high school together. We (Bonnie and Clyde) would through basement parties and invite all of our friends. It was really this moment where we didn’t really know where our future was going. We both were going through this phase of our life and trying to have a lot of fun, just trying to enjoy this time we had with our friends because who knew where we were going from there.

RR – You were kind of like in that limbo phase of not knowing.

Bonnie – Exactly and that is where I pulled the inspiration from. While we were making the song I think it was like we wanted to tie in our love for music more specifically our love for Bass Music. With that being said though I think it is still really light hearted, like I really wouldn’t say it was the craziest bass song at all, but it still makes you feel that love for the music.

RR- So like you were saying this song is more down tempo and light hearted. You are due to release a new EP soon. Can we look forward to all of the songs on the EP being that speed or will we get more of a variety?

Bonnie – Actually we decided to release this song first because it is more of a mainstream song compared to all the other songs where we they are pretty much all EDM.

Clyde – We do have a song called Tonight which is probably more Pop than EDM.

Bonnie – Yeah aside from Tonight, Bass Jam is definitely the slowest on the EP. I think the other songs are a lot harder, you will definitely hear a different vibe.

Clyde – We also have a hybrid song too, we are trying to have something that appeals to everybody. Make a moshpit, make you cry, make you nostalgic, and just try to hit the spectrum.

Bonnie – We definitely wanted to include all of that in this EP.

RR – So I am curious if you could choose anyone to collaborate with on the circuit right now who would you choose?

Bonnie – I mean I love Flume!

RR- Did you catch his set last night?

Bonnie – Yes! It was so good. I have actually seen him before and every time its wild he is really good.

Clyde – For me its Adventure Club.

Bonnie – Adventure Club would be really cool for us. I mean there is a ton of people, I would really love to collaborate with Diplo. As far as someone who is attainable for us right now.

Clyde – Yeah like guys who we are talking to Adventure Club, or maybe even Slushii.

RR – I feel like your music would fit really well with Slushii.

Clyde- I am glad that you think that.

RR- On this note is there a goal stage or festival that you would like to play eventually?

Clyde – Closing out TomorrowLand main stage.

Bonnie – That would be beautiful. I really hope to make it there.

Clyde – Closing out the whole festival is definitely the dream. When you do that it is like you made it.

Bonnie – I also would really love to play at Ibiza. I would be super excited to play there. Oh and Ultra! I have never played Ultra. That was the first festival I ever went to so going full circle for me would be so cool. It was the first place that I was like, “Wow this is EDM, this is it.” That is definitely going to be an exciting moment.

RR- On your journey so far has anyone given you a solid piece of advice that has really helped?

Bonnie – I have received all kinds of advice. I think the best thing someone has told me is that you really have to stay true to yourself, because a lot of people are doing very similar things in this industry and it is easy to get caught up in following other people. You really have to stay in your own mindset when you are getting creative. It is really good to pull inspiration from places, but you really have to make your own path which is super important so you stand out.

Clyde – When it relates to overall I say sometimes, really just being a good person. Just being nice to people when you interact with them. When we were coming up in Miami and didn’t really have anything going it was my reputation around the city and community that ultimately enabled everything. People where interested in me instead of under the impression that I was an asshole.

Bonnie – Your music is one thing, but they are going to meet you and they are going to see you.

Clyde – You really have to have those good vibes. No one wants bad energy around. You may have the best music in the world, but if you have a bad energy no one wants to vibe with you.

Bonnie – There are a lot of people that get to that certain point where they think that they can be mean or they think that they are better than you.

Clyde – Essentially thinking that humans aren’t humans anymore

Bonnie – Almost as if they are a godly figure.

RR- Back to influences, Name one EDM artist that really got you into the genre?

Clyde- It is hard to say, I guess if you put them all together, Flume, Chainsmokers, Adventure Club and Diplo.

Bonnie – Diplo is definitely the biggest one for me. In my first Summer of experiencing Miami, and the music scene I went to see Diplo a bunch. He had this way that made me really fall in love with the music. I wanted to be a part of it so hardcore when I met him, I knew I loved this. For me it pushed me.

RR- You have the hats that are really like your signature. Have you seen any of your fans try to pull off the hat?

Bonnie – It is funny you say that because I actually don’t have my Bonnie hat right now. I will go places not wearing the hat and no one knows who I am which is kind of great. I put it on and then I become Bonnie.

RR- You have the super man thing going on.

Bonnie – Really though! I haven’t really seen anyone try to copy it, but people steal it all the time. Like Leighton from Adventure Club stole it the other day. Which I am okay with. It’s a thing.

RR- It really does makes you unique. Final question do you have any must see shows this weekend at Okeechobee?

Bonnie – I am really excited to see Kings of Leon and Pretty Lights.
