Full albums is the new big thing that’s defining DJs in 2014, right? I have to admit, I’ve been signfigantly turned off by Borgore lately due to substandard singles like “Ratchet” and “Unicorn Zombie Apocalypse,” but I gave an open, unbiased ear to his full-length LP #NEWGOREORDER.
The intro is pretty hilarious, the combination of a cinematic narrative and foul language always gets me, the spoken word is soon cut off by an old school drop that’ll reminds you of late 2000’s Borgore. The next track “Syrup,” shows off the sleazy, booty-lovin’ Borgore that’ve we’ve all seen at one time or another. This is the side of Borgore I can do without, the generic trap style of “Syrup” takes away the optimism “#NEWGOREORDER” had left you with.
“Hate” and “Pinata” are both solid 128 bpm tracks with great construction through and through. “Be Ourselves” in a massive big-room banger with catchy stoner lyrics appearing here and there. The melodic bridge is soothing, adding unique flavor to the middle of the LP. “Kill Them All” showcases deep house sounds mixed with electro, very fresh and original all around.
The tracks I didn’t mention, in particular the ones with Borgore rapping, wern’t mentioned intentionally. The album is torn between fresh and inspiring originals and flat-out bad ideas. There’s many sides to Borgore, but the styles are polarizing his fan base. I hope he begins to head in a less trappy, more innovative direction in the future, but #NEWGOREORDER is undoubtedly worth a listen.
