When one thinks of New Orleans, a beautiful merriment of culture, diversity and artistic aesthetic comes to mind. Subsequently, the BUKU Music + Art Project has always been dedicated to running a well-rounded music and arts festival. Their collective of performing artists is as unique as it gets, ranging from rap to electronica, indie to straight up house music. This week’s Artist Spotlight features two powerful forces to be reckoned with: Run The Jewels.

Run The Jewels is a rap duo collaboration consisting of established artists, El-P and Killer Mike. El-P produced Killer Mike’s R.A.P. Music album in 2012, and later came together once again to form the dynamic duo, Run The Jewels. They debuted their self-titled album as a free download release, and also have releases under A-Trak & Nick Catchdubs’ Fool’s Gold Records label.
RTJ seems to be blowing up fast with their intriguing fusion beats; a dark mixture of alternative, soul/funk, electronica, and classic rap instrumentals, intermingled with smooth verses and on the dot deliveries. Imagine talented rappers flowing effortlessly to music from The Prodigy. (Pretty awesome, isn’t it?) Additionally, their stylized illustrations are pretty awesome too.
