A Die Antwoord show is two things: crazy and something you’ve probably never experienced before. This is why you need to tail it to New Orleans for the Buku Music & Art Project to see their creative performance for yourself! There’s an endless amount of hype and energy this South African trio can conjure with their unique style of music; an eclectic mixture of rap and dance (techno).
The group consists of head rapper Ninja, Yolandi Vi$$er as the main vocalist/supplemental rapper, and DJ Hi-Tek wrecking it on the decks. Their dark yet lighthearted concept first gained international attention with their “Enter The Ninja” music video. It’s a slightly macabre, but highly stylized video with awesome art and Yolandi’s catchy hook.
Diplo even collaborated with Die Antwoord to produce one of their most famous tracks, “Evil Boy,” on their American $O$ album release. It’s a booty-shaking tribal melody with super fast rapping and a dynamic break down. It’s also intriguing to note that the trio is multilingual, rapping in several languages including English, Afrikaans and Xhosa.
They incorporate many elements of art, fashion, and design aesthetic into their songs, as well as rapping about haters and social issues in their country. “ZEF” is a famous Afrikaans slang word Yolandi is notorious for saying, translating in English to people living foolishly above their means. (Die Antwoord translates to “The Answer”).
You’ve got to see it to believe it, and trust us, you won’t be disappointed. Die Antwoord will definitely be a change to your musical palette. Grab your tickets and do the Buku now! www.TheBukuProject.com/tickets
