Speaking to the Sun, Calvin Harris told them that girlfriend Rita Ora, “Doesn’t really like dance music. She doesn’t really like my music but I like hers.” Ora is a 22-year-old, British pop singer and songwriter known mostly for her song “R.I.P. featuring Tinie Tempah”.
It’s difficult to differentiate between “R.I.P.” and “We Found Love”, but if Calvin Harris and Rita Ora can be together for reasons outside of music, that’s great for them.
Calvin Harris was forced to backtrack on the statement at V festival, telling MTV U.K exclusively,
“That’s why I don’t do interviews. I end up saying stupid things, people take it seriously. It’s kind of lies and she likes some of them.”
It’s not hard to imagine why the media would take a statement like “my girlfriend hates my music” and run with it, especially when Forbes just ranked you the highest earning DJ in the world.
Calvin Harris also shot down any indications that the two would soon collaborate on a track, “She’s a great singer, she’s amazing but she’s also my missus. Business and pleasure you know…”
There was originally a lot of speculation that Ellie Goulding and Calvin Harris were getting together after their steamy video for “I Need Your Love”, but Ellie is actually dating this guy from some horse movie. She told Metro UK that Rita Ora was understanding and that “Me and Calvin are really good friends. We make each other laugh. We text each other stupid stuff and we really get on and are similar.”
