We’ve certainly decided that the experience of Camp Bisco Eleven has shattered all previous expectations. There was no doubt in our minds that this event would be spectacular, but to us it was more than that. From the release of the lineup in late March, it could easily be decided that Bisco had the most complete lineup all summer. The festival gives music fans an opportunity not only to checkout the newer, more popular, and rising dance music artists but also explore other genres and artists as well. This review begins the in depth 3 day analysis of our Camp Bisco experience from an electric dance perspective. We will review artists performances as well as share stunning pictures taken by our photographer Rachel Costa.
The M Machine
Fresh off ‘The Language Tour’ with Porter Robinson and Mat Zo, The M Machine continued to impress us with their electro house and indie dance style. We immediately noticed only 1/3rd of the trio was present, but producer Ben Swardlick (Swardy) put on a massive show under the B.I.G. tent. The M Machine are one of our favorite rising electric dance groups. They never disappoint and are always working to improve the experience of their show, they are in our eyes the perfect artists to kick start day 1 at bisco. Since they developed their I-Pad controlled light show, starring a huge ‘M’ that is stacked with LED lights (not featured at Camp Bisco) you can tell they are passionate about their music and fans.
Zeds Dead
After kicking off the first day with impressive performances by Inspired Flight, Mansions on the Moon, The M Machine’s Swardy, and more, the fun continued as we fast forward to later in the evening. Zeds Dead picked up the reins at the main-stage dropping dubstep bangers that sent the crowd into a euphoric coma. Although the sun had just passed its peak, the light show was still incredible. ‘Bassmentality’ a 2011 collaboration with Killabits (also on the bisco lineup) sparked a fire beneath the crowd and received a extremely positive reaction. Zeds Dead were the first artists we heard drop a Trap music remix at Bisco Eleven. For some unexplainable reason Trap music snuck into the lime light of all three days.
Alvin Risk
Alvin Risk is one of the most underrated producers in the electric dance scene, but hands down he had one of the best performances at Bisco this year. The OWSLA producer played under the B.I.G tent and started his set off with his remix of Kaskade’s ‘Eyes’ an absolute crowd pleasing tune. He also dropped tracks off his Infinity EP released around three months ago, records like ‘Psychotic’ and ‘Infinity’ set the crowd off creating a phenomenal vibe throughout the tent. As his performance progressed it only got better, he sang for us and to our surprise he had a wonderful voice. The highlight for us was when he dropped his smashing remix of ‘Earthquakey People’. One of his best remixes to date.
Skrillex
You know this guy right? There is something about Sonny Moore’s music that attracts all types of people. If you mention the term ‘EDM’ to someone unfamiliar with the scene, his name will most likely pop up. Is this a good or bad thing? Who knows and who cares. Sonny has faced a lot of criticism because people seem to think he has brought electric dance music mainstream. I blame David Guetta for that, but the more the merrier in our eyes! Anyway everyone at bisco ventured over to the main-stage to see him preform. But what more could you expect? Everyone wants to see the award winning, grammy claiming, dubstep phenom. The anticipation was high as the ten minute countdown struck zero and Skrillex took the main-stage. He started off with tracks ‘Make It Bun Dem‘ and his ‘Hey Sexy Lady’ remix to set the mood. Tides turned when ‘Still Gettin It’ was unleashed, an oldie featuring Foreign Beggars which hyped up the crowd. He also continued with this years theme of Trap music which was no surprise to us at all. There was something special going on that words couldn’t describe as an aura surround the stage, the bass pulsed through fans bodies sending them into an absolute uproar of excitement. Skrill selected perfect tracks leaving his audience very pleased. The saying ‘Melt Your Face’ took a literal meaning when fire exploded in our faces as the astounding light show continued. Skrillex closed out his set with a mix of ‘Bangarang’ to wrap up his time-slot. Some say the show was incredible while others thought it lacked creativity and was essentially the same as all his other shows. We thought it he had put together a perfect track list, we talked to fans who have seen him multiple times and they weren’t at pleased as us.
Kill The Noise
This picture alone is worth a thousand words and speaks volumes for what Kill The Noise is really about. He showed up just on time as he took the B.I.G. tent stage and spoke to the crowd. He was very interactive showing passion and intensity as he jumped around and released breath taking bangers. He played a really dope remix of ‘The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air’ theme song which saw the crowd singing along word for word. Over all the energy he brought to the stage was incredible, especially when he unleashed his ‘Under and Over it’ remix . He closed out his set by talking up a tune produced by him an Dillion Francis (Who also had an unbelievable set on day 3) ‘Dill The Noise’.
Porter Robinson & Zedd (Surprise Back to Back set)
Just when we thought the first day of Bisco eleven couldn’t get any better, it did. Zedd and Porter Robinson‘s back to back set at first seemed unreal. The vibe was sensational, two of the youngest producers in the scene had come together to create an unforgettable adventure for their fans. They mixed, mashed, and intertwined their best tracks. ‘Unison’, ‘Language’, and ‘Spectrum’ rattled the speakers and the hearts of fans. Throughout their performance it seemed they had felt extremely comfortable mixing with each other, if orchestrating a back to back was simple everyone would do it. Toward the end as we entered the early hours of the morning, previous artists came out on stage to join the party. The M Machine’s Swardy and Kill The Noise ran around with ‘<3 Zedd’ and ‘100% in the bitch’ flags. We even got a small appearance from Skrillex which really pleased the crowd. The last song ended while Zedd and Porter praised the fans as they left the stage. The crowd howled for an encore and an encore they got. The encore song played was a mix of ‘Language’ that staggered us all, the beautiful vocals echoed marking the end to a perfect opening day of Camp Bisco.
