Up-and coming future bass DJ/producer Cavalier contains a future bass sound that’s one-of-a-kind. His combination of upbeat synths, well-timed percussion, and unique emotion is putting him on the map. Raised in Long Beach, California, Cavalier got his start playing piano, “When I was playing piano I noticed that I could hear melody and kind of play and figure things out by ear. The first genre I remember being really into was classic rock.Then after that I got more into listening to alternative rock that was on the radio.” As Cavalier grew, so did his interest in music and music theory, his proactive attitude toward studying theory would later benefit him greatly.
Middle school also led to his discovery of hip-hop, rap, alternative and rock worlds, but it would be the hip-hop/rap influence that pushed Cavalier to the studio, “Kanye got me into Lupe Fiasco and Jay Z and eventually I fell in love with hip hop and started producing and sampling soul music from the 70’s, like Kanye, and after a lot of practice I found my own sound and became aware of a lot of the great music that was coming up on the internet.”
Rap soon turned Cavalier on to trap and the electronic dance music scene, but the first influences that helped shape Cavalier’s signature sound was Cashmere Cat, Trippy Turtle, and other artist focusing on the jersey club music scene. Today, Cavalier’s focus is on future bass. “Future bass is fast paced, electronic, and it focuses a lot on chord progressions, which is one of my favorite aspects of music.”
Being a young producer during the rise of a new genre is a magical moment. New genres are beautiful and deserve special recognition, that’s why WRR and Cavalier have partnered up to bring our reader’s a future bass-influenced mix from Cavalier himself. It’s moments like “Got it!” and “Takeoff” that really capture a segment of the 2014 electronic scene.
