Renowned for their infectiously groovy sound, as well as for their outlandish headgear, Swedish DJ/producers, Alexander Björklund and Sebastian Furrer, who make up the dance music duo, Cazzette, has returned with a delicious new EP, aptly titled Desserts. Comprised of five distinctive, and melodic tracks that will easily become fan-favourites, this EP is clearly demonstrative of the duo’s proficiency with production, and musical composition. Adding their signature touch to the Deep House sound that has gripped the scene by storm, each track is a vivacious assemblage of uplifting synths, bright stabs, and punchy kick drums, which are complemented by an assortment of smooth, mellowed vocals.
Having been booked to play main-stage sets at several major dance music events, including Creamfields, Tomorrowland, and Ultra Music Festival, Cazzette definitely know how to get a crowd moving, and there is no doubt that all of these tunes are sure to become hits as they embark on their North American tour this fall. Tour dates are listed below, and you can stream the Desserts EP above on Spotify. It will be available for purchase via iTunes on August 28th.
We were also fortunate to have been able to ask Cazzette a few questions about this release in a RaverRafting exclusive interview, which can be found below.
1. First, congratulations on the release of your Desserts EP. Did you have a particular vision in mind when creating it? Do you feel that you were able to fully actualize that vision?
“Thank you! Desserts came together very naturally to us. We kind of just picked the songs that we liked the most and would work well together yet individually out of our recent productions. Its a cool process to just go through all of the songs one has been working really hard on and give them another session and tweak them up and see them come to life once more. We feel like that part is really important when deciding on what to release; Does the track still hold after being on ice for a few months?”
2. How did you come up with the title of this release?
“We chose Desserts since it represents each songs individual flavor since the EP is more a selection of songs rather than a well thought through album. Also Desserts backwards is Stressed, which is how we kind of felt about our music before Desserts. On this EP we really took our time with every song rather than Eject that was our debut and also more rushed.”
3. There are a handful of collaborative tunes on this album. Is there a certain track that you guys particularly enjoyed working on?
“We had so much fun working with every one on this EP. A favorite moment would be writing solo para ti with LP in Los Angeles. We really clicked and the track is very special to us.”
4. Many people claim that the Deep/Future House genre has become saturated with “commercial”-sounding tunes, what is your stance on that matter?
“We don’t really think about genres when we create our music so to us that really doesn’t matter. We strive to re-invent ourselves as much as possible when it comes to production and think that if you place yourself within a genre it just limits the creativity. Its great in general that electronic music has become such a solid instalment.”
5. Your musical style has definitely progressed, and transformed from the one that was exhibited in your other hits, such as “Beam Me Up”. What influenced this evolution in your sound?
“Like we mentioned before we really try to move forward with our productions all the time. Within the future you can expect even more changes. Creating songs that are out of the box for us is what keeps us motivated and inspired. Its also amazing what you learn from producing genres one is not familiar with.”
6. You guys have played a handful of massive gigs this festival season, including a main stage set at Creamfields, and are soon to embark on a North American tour. Can you name some of the staple tracks (from producers other than yourself) that will most likely be featured in your sets this autumn?
“Ouh! There is so much good stuff out right now; Dr. Dre has a new album that is straight fire. Dillon Francis new EP is also cool, as well as Disclosure’s new album material.”
