We were able to get an interview in with Sebastian and Alex of Cazzette before the release of their debut album Eject that comes out Tuesday, November 13. We talk their dub-house style, what they’re stoked for on the new album, what it’s like working with Ash Pournouri and more. Check out their new video Beam Me Up and make sure you purchase their album on the 13th.
If you’re in NYC, Cazzette will be hosting their album release party at LAVO NY tomorrow night.
1. For those unfamiliar with your style, can you explain what dub-house is and what a Cazzette set is like?
Actually dub-house is as simple as it sounds. House combined with dub-step. We’re both huge fans of the two genres so why not combine them?! That whole genre kind of describes our sets too. We love those uplifting house tracks but to us it’s not interesting enough for a two hour set – we like to throw some trap, dub-step or hip-hop in there too, as well as progressive and tech house. A fun night out to us is when we get surprised and amazed by the tracks that are unexpected yet hand-in-hand with the rest of the set to create a great flow of energy on the floor.
2. You’re only days away from releasing your debut album Eject, what’s going through your heads? Anything that you’re particularly worried about or excited for?
It feels amazing. It’s all been going so fast so it’s kind of hard to tell what we feel but we are really happy with the result and are so looking forward to see what the fans think about it. It’s a great album to us since we like different kinds of electronic music so much. We wanted to make something different and we did – the album is really varied between the different tracks. There’s something on it for everyone!
3. Ash Pournouri is unknown to many EDM fans, but he’s largely responsible for Avicii’s superstar career and now Cazzettes. Can you tell us what it’s like working with him and what he does differently than other managers?
Ash is to us what management should be all about. He, together with the whole At Night family is a part of what we do, in every way. When we produce it’s like we have a third member we can bounce ideas with. That’s probably what makes it so special. He is very creative and we get to use that creativity as well.
4. This summer you played some of the biggest festivals in the world including Tomorrowland, Ultra and Beyond Wonderland. What was your favorite festival? What international EDM festival do US fans need to get to?
US fans should make sure to hit up Tomorrowland. That was one epic production and gig. Our favorite in the US is without a doubt EDC Las Vegas. That one will be in our hearts forever 😉
5. 2012 has been huge for Cazzette. What part of the journey is still unreal to you?
What’s real? No, but seriously, this year has been overwhelming and really developed ourselves as personswhile setting ground for our career. We feel so blessed that we get to do what we love on a professional level after all those nights in our bedroom studios! We are super grateful for Ash who decided to pick us up and develop us.
6. Do you guys have any upcoming collaborations or tour plans? Is there a chance we’ll see Avicii +Cazzette on a track?
We are always very open minded about collabs. It’s so much fun to see what can come out when you combine talent. Touring-wise we are doing a few shows soon together with our release of “eject” – starting in New York and finishing up things in Vegas. Regarding the Avicii collab there’s no such plans at the moment but who knows what may come 😉 – we are big fans of his music.
