Since its release in January, The Chainsmokers‘ catchy tune comically titled #SELFIE has dominated the dance music scene, earning lauds from some big name producers (whose selfies also make an appearance in the music video!) such as Pete Tong, Nervo, and A-Trak – just to name a few. Making a humorous statement about today’s “selfie”-taking generation, this track has gone viral in the past few weeks, and has even gotten some attention from the mainstream media, with many non-electronic fans taking notice of the track in the same way they did with Baauer’s “Harlem Shake”.
Not surprisingly, #SELFIE has made its way up the Billboard charts, skyrocketing to the number 6 position (up from 12) on the Hot Dance/Electronic Songs tally, as well as having moved into the number 3 spot on the Dance/Electronic digital songs list with a 114% increase in digital downloads, bringing them to a remarkable total of 53 000 downloads sold. To top it all off, the track made a notable debut at the #55 position on Billboard’s Hot 100 ranking.
Comprised of members Andrew Taggart and Alex Pall, the New York City based duo, signed to Dim Mak Records, has already made a tremendous impression on the dance music scene. While being in the midst of a North American tour (aptly dubbed the #SELFIE Tour), it was announced yesterday that the duo will be performing on the main stage of Mysteryland Festival’s inaugural event. Fans can definitely expect to hear a lot more from The Chainsmokers in the coming months, and should prepare themselves for all the #SELFIE remixes that will undoubtedly be dropped in a plethora of sets this festival season!
