CharlesTheFirst is quickly becoming a name to remember in the experimental bass music scene. For years the talented young producer has been hard at work crafting a sound that is both unique, and easily accessible. Now on the tail end of a high profile festival season, including performances at Tipper & Friends, Shambhala, and Basscenter, CharlesTheFirst has released his most exciting and adventurous project to date.
With The Reach CharlesTheFirst explores the art of sonic imagery with a collection of songs that all tell a story through their unique blend of melody and sound design. While the project only goes six songs deep, it still manages to find the perfect balance between diversity and cohesiveness. Some songs take a softer approach, such as the EP’s blissful closer ‘Beacon’, while other songs like ‘Mercy Falls’ rock the speakers with infectious basslines.
One thing that all the songs have in common is an insane attention to detail. While bass and melody is the main focus of all these tunes, each is masterfully sprinkled with a touch of sound effects and other elements to make sure that the listener’s ear is always perked up in curiosity.
