By far, one of the best artists we were fortunate to interview was Big Beat resident CID. His laid back vibe made speaking to him easy and his humble attitude toward his growing success was clearly expressed within his responses.
Between joining Kaskade on his album with their record “Us” as well as the Automatic tour and opening for Galantis, CID has quickly made a name for himself. Collaborations aside, his original tracks have gained plenty of momentum. “Love is Blind” ft. Glenna brings those high energy house sounds to fruition as well as “No!” recently released on Musical Freedom Records, which pulls sounds from classic record “No Scrubs.”
After seeing CID appear with Kaskade at the Proximity and Spotify ElectroNOW event RaverRafting President, Chad Downs and I were excited to have the opportunity to speak with CID before he joined the likes of Galantis and Cash Cash, later that night, at the Big Beat FDR Delano event.

What was your Intro to Big Beat?
I actually did a remix. I had the vocal for Bruno Mars treasure and it was a remix I sent to someone at Big Beat, and they were like I don’t know if we’ll take this for the remix package but then they threw me an Icona Pop remix and that one was official. That was my way kind of into them knowing who I was and then just people talking about me in the Industry, different people and Big Beat started paying attention and then I met with a woman named Gina Tucci and she was the one who was like “We really want to help you build your career and bring you into the big beat family.”
What are some musical elements that you see your artistry developing this year?
The last year I’ve been more consistent, the hardest thing as an artist is finding what your sound is, and I feel like the last year I feel I’ve been building something that is the CID sound.
What would you say those elements are?
I guess trying to make House music but arranged with a little more energy. You still have buildups but you can be a little more house-y with the production.
How did working with Kaskade come about?
Crazy, again its people just connecting different people
I did a track called “Got me Thinking” with Don Diablo and he [Kaskade] started playing that a lot, and then somebody emailed, “Hey have you heard of this guy CID?” and he’s like yeah I’ve been playing that track so we connected over E-mail and I started sending him different stuff, and he’s a busy guy, some things he would answer, but I knew he was kind of keeping his eye on me. I’ve been doing a lot of music and he’s heard some of the stuff that nobody’s even heard yet and that’s when he called me and said he wanted to help me so I signed with his manager at Little Empire. One thing led to another, we had talked about us doing a track together and that turned into “Us”. Which then we did the album tour and it was amazing.
You’ve been opening for Galantis as well, how has it differed?
I’m grateful to be on the tour and get to play in front of these crowds that are still discovering my music. I definitely saw a difference between doing the tour with Kaskade and then coming back to the same cities. The reaction was crazy, I was like “Wow”, you know? It was awesome.
What are you working on and who are you excited to work with this year?
To be honest I want to do more original solo stuff right now. I did the stuff with don Diablo and Kaskade; we’ll probably do something else together soon, but original stuff and working with different songwriters. Real songs. I love using Samples but look at Kaskade’s career, its all-original music and that’s why everyone loves him. So this year lots more original music and songs.
For other artists that are up and coming, setting music aside, what are key elements artists should focus on once the music is there?
Creating relationships with artists and making sure people are playing your music. Getting the attention of Kaskade or Tiesto, any of those guys and have them start supporting their music.
We see crazy creative content all the time around artists, any creative videos or projects that you’re building around your music?
You see with every artist, the music is, not that it is secondary, but everything else around the music itself is just as important such as branding. That’s definitely something I’m focusing on and that’s why I’m so happy to be part of Big Beat, they have the resources to create something big around the songs.
What about any upcoming headlining shows? Festivals?
Definitely working on that, that’s the next step. I’m playing a bunch of festivals; Insomniac has really been putting me on.
