Desert Hearts just completed their debut at the City Hearts Festival, a new concept that brought house, techno, and love together in the middle of downtown Los Angeles. Immediately entering, a plethora of steampunk, tie-dyed, and neon colored clothing overwhelmed the senses and created a unified look of the crowd. Even if you were not dressed for the occasion, booths in the back had everything to get you looking Desert Heart ready. The event also featured various artists who were creating art on the spot, giving us a unique opportunity to view professionals in the middle of their creative process. You had to appreciate the type of confidence and vulnerability these artists possessed to be completely consumed and un-phased by the spectacle that was occurring around them.

Desert Hearts made a wise decision to keep the music focused on one tiny stage, allowing all of us, the viewers, the party-goers, the music-lovers, to have a comfortable amount of room to shuffle, jump, hula, or whatever you wanted. The lineup included incredible house and techno sets from the likes of Doc Martin, Marques Wyatt, Mikey Lion, Lee Reynolds, Marbs, and PorkChop. To be honest however, once the sun began to set, the lights began to shine brighter, and the vibes became just ever so alive, you began to lose yourself in the music. The DJ’s kept the beat going without a pause and often we found ourselves not even noticing that a new artist had begun playing. But that is the true beauty of house and techno music, the ability of it to completely consume and trap us in a blurry haze of ecstasy and leave us in a wondrous state of satisfaction as the night comes to a close.

City Hearts Festival was an obvious success, and offered a unique perspective on its location. Partying with skyscrapers surrounding you is something everyone needs to experience. Let’s all hope that the amazing success of the festival means that Desert Hearts is already planning for the next one!
