In “Stereotype,” Clyde Hill and Jason Gaffner bring funky sounds and sunny vibes to our ears. It makes sense as these artists are currently living the West Coast dream in LA. Hill may have gotten his start in Seattle, but since moving south and teaming up with LA native Gaffner, the sound has been pure southern California bliss. Combining Gaffner’s nu-disco and soul influenced sound with Hill’s crisp production sensibilities, “Stereotype” is an all-around hit that shows what this duo is capable of.
The song combines elements of many different genres. However, it’s hard to shake the strong disco and funk vibe that hits listeners ears right upon clicking play. The funky bass-line matches with the west coast hip hop tunes to let listeners know exactly the mood the artists are going for. The carefree mentality matches with the relaxed and breezy vocals to create the perfect summertime tune.
With hints of Bruno Mars, Chromeo, and even Dr. Dre (in a production sense), “Stereotype” is the perfect amalgamation of west coast funk across the times.
