After teasing two singles, title track “Dreamgirl,” and the ambitious “Too Fast,” Dreamgirl EP is here in it’s full form ready to be appreciated by the masses. A multi-faceted theme is conveyed that’s uplifting and hopeful at some moments, dark and devious at others.
“Dreamgirl,” and “Without You,” share a broad common essence. Starting out the flow on a more positive note, light production aesthetics and warm atmospheres give a sense of comfort at the start of the EP, while the drop goes a different direction with the darker experience starting to reveal itself. “Without You,” smoothly segues to what is the middle-territory of the EP. Soulful vocals, cheery sample-work, and future-inspired drops providing more of that upbeat nature. “The Fall,” takes an emotional turn, slowing down the tempo and tossing in, what feels like, hardwave influences in the drop. Gentle vocal samples sprinkled about enhances the eased, yet meaningful attributes on display.
Next up, “Succubus,” embraces a mellow atmosphere. More vocal driven and full of chill vibes, the track is a personal favorite and could reasonably be considered a peak moment.
Closing track, “Blindspot,” gets more technical and experimental, while featuring that familiar vocal melody which reappears throughout the EP. The energy picks up as the track moves forward, then dissipates to a close as it ends.
