Graves has been blowing up in the electronic music scene in a big way. Though he is no stranger to the music industry to say the least, dabbling in music production since 2008. Also working with a little artist known as Kanye West for 3-4 years as an engineer. Earning himself a Grammy for his work on Kanye’s album My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy, he heard music from the likes of Skrillex, and did a complete 180 on what his scope was for his future. He started a group project known as OOF, which won the EDC Discovery Project. They played mainstage at EDC New York, but he decided it was time for his own solo career, and Graves was born. He’s toured and traveled with RL Grime and Baauer played festivals such as Hard Summer, and even set sail for the shenanigans known as Holy Ship.
Now he’s bringing his trap and bass sound to Commencement Fest for all you Michiganders to rage and enjoy. Let’s get into some of our favorite tracks of his.
This first track is Graves and Maazel and is his newest releases. A light, summery song, with high pitch vocal chopping, it’s very melodic but dubby at the same time. It’s one of our favorites.
Next up is “No Sunshine.” Using the vocal sample you might think, from low to high pitch distortion, it’s also a very light, upbeat track to keep your head bobbing and feet moving.
Another favorite of ours is “Tiger Blood” a track with MYRNE. It starts with a very light chord progression and drops into a synth sound and melody that would make Flume jealous.
Last but not least we’ve got a song he did with Coolights, “Say Things.” Using another vocal sample on this one, it builds into the drop, and the vocal sample is incorporated into the drop itself. It’s a very well done and catchy track with more clips and synths.
