With Counterpoint 2014 less than two weeks away, it’s finally an acceptable time to start planning for the weekend. Each festival comes with a unique set of features that make the experience special, so it’s important to cater your plans and preparations to every individual festival you attend. You should familiarize yourself with all the new features of Counterpoint before you leave, that way you’re guaranteed to have one of the most interactive and exciting weekends of your life. Below are five things you should do to get fully prepared.
1. Register your wristband to credit card (here)
Like most festivals, your CP wristband comes with directions to register it to your name. However, this year they also included the genius option of connecting your wristband to a credit or debit card. Any bar location and select vendors will be accepting wristband scans as a form of payment. Now you don’t have to worry about carrying around (and potentially losing) cash or a card. You can carry your money around worry free!
2. Purchase their Solar Charging Battery for your phone (here)
You can keep your phone charged all weekend with Counterpoint’s new battery sale/rental system. To take advantage, you pay a one-time charge of $25 to reserve a portable battery that can be picked up and exchanged at charging stations. Here’s Counterpoint’s description of the technology:
“Our portable, dust-proof, waterproof Thin Lithium Ion Polymer battery comes with a uniquely designed, very durable case made of rubber silicone. The battery has a 4 LED display that defines the capacity, charging and discharging status. These lights indicate the percent of battery life remaining in your phone. Four lights on = 95%-100% capacity, 3 lights on = 75% capacity, 2 lights on = 50% capacity, and 1 light on = 25% capacity. They’re even equipped with a state of the art battery control chip which prevents over charging or over discharging. The SUN S.P.E.C.K.’s standard 5V output can charge just about every different mobile phone on the market, so don’t miss out!”
3. Purchase parking passes for your car or RV (here)
Each camping festival has a different policy on passes for vehicles that are driven to the venue. For CP you MUST purchase one of the passes they offer. You should decide which pass you buy depending on what type of ticket you hold: general admission, VIP, single day, camping or non camping, etc.
If you plan to park your car at your campsite and accidentally purchase one of the stadium parking options, or make any similar mistakes, your weekend could take a bad turn. So carefully look through the options and pick the one that best fits you, your group and your plans.
4. Decorate your campsite for the A-Trak Competition
That pretty much sums everything up. You have 10 days left to create a masterpiece for A-Trak, so no pressure, but you should get creative and excited at the chance to chill with one of the headliners in the comfort of your own campsite!
5. Arrange your music and workshops schedule
Overall, Counterpoint is going to include five stages; four for music and one for special workshops, including yoga, hoop dance classes, and more. On their website you can find a daily schedule including set and workshop times for each stage, and they will most likely be passing out hand held schedules when you arrive. You can always go with the flow or try to figure out what schedule you’re going to follow once you kick off the weekend, but that could mean potentially missing something you really wanted to experience. The best way to avoid this is to make a tentative weekend schedule between you and your group BEFORE you leave. You can make a very rough schedule or plan it exactly to the tee, it doesn’t matter, but any little bit of planning will help your weekend run much smoother.
*Side note: If you genuinely want the best Counterpoint 2014 experience, take the next week and a half to discover some new artists on the lineup. 10 days is plenty of time to get familiar with new music. There are going to be four stages, all featuring a different vibe and incredible set of artists, so there is room for everyone to find a new name or sound that interests them. If you don’t do this you run the risk of making one of the most typical festival mistakes: falling in love with an artist from the lineup after the weekend is already over, and regretting not catching their set.
Counterpoint is offering so many amazing options for us; take advantage of everything you can! Let the countdown begin.
