The first annual CounterPoint Music Festival is 15 days away, which still leaves you plenty of time to still get a ticket if you’ve been slacking or set up your daily schedule. Ticket prices will see an increase to $185 this Saturday, so you should buy now if you haven’t yet. We didn’t label CounterPoint, the most complete lineup all summer without reason and it’s incredible how their is minimal overlap even for the headlining artists.
Build Your CounterPoint Music Festival Lineup
CounterPoint Day 1, 9/27/12
Thursday will be a chill day at CounterPoint with the majority of the lineup set to play on Friday and Saturday. My plan is to take a half day at work, cruise down to the ATL and set up camp in time to catch Adventure Club at 7:30. Beats Antique is an awesome experience too, but the real show will belong to rowdytown residents Big Gigantic who have been on a tear this year. I’m hoping they play Mr. B off of the new Griz album.
CounterPoint Day 2, 9/28/12
When I heard that CounterPoint was going to mainly be a Friday / Saturday festival, I was worried thinking that it was going to be a scheduling catastrophe. However when you aren’t limited by noise ordinances and can play music until two AM, it gives you a lot of options. Saturday will start with some hip hop provided by Theophilus London, before I make my way over to MiMOSA followed by Crystal Castles.
Given that M83’s set was cut short at Ultra this is probably where I’ll be, but if Feed Me brings the teeth it could change my mind. I can see myself splitting time between Excision and Avicii, mainly to see what kind of set Avicii will spin in Atlanta. It’s a new market for him, so I’m expecting it to be “mainstream” but we’ll see. If you’re on the edge between the two, dubheads everywhere will tell you that Excision is a subhuman god. They’re probably right.
No Brainer: Fool’s Gold Clubhouse for A-Trak from 12:25 – 2:00 will be a party that’s unforgivable to miss. A-Trak will spin hip hop, trap, house, electro whatever he wants to set that place off. I’m hoping to hear his Spectrum remix.
CounterPoint Day 3, 9/29/12
I hope that the Beat Tent is ready for WRR on Saturday, because it’s definitely the place to be. 12th Planet -> Conspirator -> Zeds Dead is a solid three hour block and I’ll probably stay to catch some of Lotus before seeing Skrillex. Last year Pretty Lights played two nights in a row in Atlanta, where the people cannot get enough of his sound. Expect to see some of the biggest PLM fans outside of Colorado at the main stage from 10:15 – 12:00.
I covered Ghostland Observatory as part of the CounterPoint Artist Discovery series and they are my only must see on Saturday. Jump on Spotify and start streaming a few of their tracks like Sad Sad City to prepare for the electro-rock dance party outfitted with one of the best laser shows.
Could It Happen? Porter Robinson’s set is from 10:15 – 11:15 with Zedd closing out the night in the Backbeat Tent. Are we going to see Porter & Zedd go B2B twice in one day?
