Counterpoint Music & Arts Festival is abandoning progressive house for their sophomore event in favor of a multi-genre lineup similar to what you’d find at A-level festivals like Bonnaroo, Coachella or Lollapalooza.
Artist highlights for the festival include Outkast, Pretty Lights, Foster the People, Major Lazer, Krewella, Big Gigantic, Flux Pavilion, Above & Beyond, Wolfgang Gartner, Flosstradamus, Boys Noize and Shpongle.
What’s striking about Counterpoint’s curation is that the headliners are all so unique from one another, each truly put on a show that’s totally their own. There’s no mistaking Outkast’s southern hip-hop, getting wet with Krewella, twerking at Major Lazer or sharing massive amounts of feels with everyone around you as “Sun and Moon” plays at Above & Beyond.
The lineup testament to the well cultured music fans of the Southeast, fans that never seem to get credit for anything because they’re uninterested in entertaining the same culture found at purist electronic festivals and Las Vegas nightclubs. Maybe it’s the commonality between sets (see 10 worst of 2013), but there are no progressive house DJs on the whole lineup. CounterPoint 2012 included Steve Angello and Avicii, two acts that probably won’t be missed.
CounterPoint understands its fans and knows they don’t need a Calvin Harris or Tiesto to buy tickets, that they’d rather see the likes of Foster the People, Sleigh Bells, Thievery Corporation, Phantogram and Cashmere Cat instead. There’s more than enough Electric-Ultra-Worlds out there to satisfy the marketplace, give us the differentiation in sound and experience instead.
The event takes place April 25 – 27 at Kingston Downs, a new location that’s over 5,000 acres and looks absolutely exquisite. Amenities on site will include a craft beer garden, Georgia Eats Food Court, the Counterpoint Non Profit Center, Arts Village, carnival rides, FREE water stations and a WhiteRaverRafting lazy river.
Tickets for the festival are fairly priced with packages starting at $180 for general admission and going all of the way up to $2,000 for platinum VIP.
