UPDATE 1-12-13: COUNTERPOINT MUSIC FESTIVAL IS NOT LEAVING ATLANTA
CounterPoint will always stay in Atlanta and not be leaving. The information below is incorrect. Look for an exclusive update to come next week.
CounterPoint Music Festival 2013 will be moving from Atlanta, Georgia and find a new home at Winston Farm in New York. The festival is schedule to take place on July 11 – 13, 2013. The town board of Saurgerties, New York conditionally granted approval for a 3-day music festival on January 9 and a lineup is expected to be released in the next two weeks.
Jonathan Fordin, MCP Presents President, in the DailyFreeman,
The CounterPoint Music and Arts Festival aims to attract about 15,000 people this year, with hopes of reaching 35,000 in future years.
It’s odd that MCP Presents would choose to host CounterPoint in New York given that Camp Bisco is also in within such close proximity.. That said any music festival in New York can tap into a much larger market that has been more exposed to EDM.
The venue Winston Farm has not hosted a music festival since the 25th Anniversary of Woodstock in 1994 also known as mudstock. The event was oversold and promoters lost control, so it’s understandable why no one has been back since.
CounterPoint was such a unique experience (see review) it’s excellent that they’ll be bringing it back to Atlanta and we can all do it again next year.
