Renowned for his dynamic and reminiscent style of House music, Italian DJ/producer, Crookers has stunned fans yet again with last month’s release of his newest album, Sixteen Chapel. This LP is comprised of eleven grooving, and vivacious tunes, a few of which have already become well acclaimed by the electronic music scene. In addition to fan favourites such as “Able To Maximize“, “#GHETTOGUETTA”, and the rather saucy tune, “Heavy”, this album features several noteworthy collaborative tracks with artists including Jeremih and TJR.
Having begun DJing at the age of 11 after getting involved with the Hip Hop scene, Crookers’ years of experience with mixing and production are easily discernible in his music and live sets. Fans will also be delighted to see that he has dropped a handful of tour dates across the United States and around Europe [listed below].
We have also been fortunate to have had the opportunity to ask this distinguished producer a few questions about the release of Sixteen Chapel, as well as receive a list of seven tracks that fans will be sure to hear at his upcoming shows.
Sixteen Chapel can also be purchased via iTunes here.
1. You have proven to be a very versatile producer, what is your current taste in music like? Does listening to other genres inspire/influence the music you make?
“I’m a rap fanatic so it’s definitely one of my main influences.”
2. What’s your all time favourite song (of any genre)?
“Janet Jackson feat. Q-Tip and Joni Mitchell “Got ‘Til It’s Gone”…This question is too hard to answer – it really depends on the genre and my mood. I’ve relocated to Los Angeles for a couple months and I’ve been playing this a lot while I unpack. I remember buying 2 copies of this to practise cutting with. All my other friends were using hardcore rap instrumentals at the time. This track helped me hone my skills.”
3. Your new album “Sixteen Chapel” has gripped the attention of the electronic music scene, and has received a widely positive response from fans thus far. Did you have a particular vision in mind when creating it? Do you feel that you were able to fully actualize that vision?
“The album was created and inspired by my naturally random production, so there were no particular themes or goals for the record. I wanted it to stylistically sound like Crookers – just better!
For me, I’ve always made music that is fun. Honestly, I’m never happy with the result so I just keep trying and trying to evolve and improve and maybe all of this trying is interesting for people, what I create is more than a copy of a copy of the last radio hit.”
4. How did you come up with the title of this release?
“The most common error tourists make when visiting the Sistine Chapel in Rome is by calling it the Sixteen Chapel – so it’s a play on that.”
5. You have a handful of interesting collaborative tracks on this album. Is there a particular artist (electronic or non-electronic) that you would like to work with in the future?
“One… But it’s impossible! Dilla (RIP)”
6. You’ve also announced several upcoming tour dates. Can you share with us one of your favourite touring memories?
“At I Love Techno 2008 I got naked on stage after the show – I was feeling 100%. Luckily, instagram and social media hadn’t taken off then so I got away with there being any evidence to haunt me today! “
