Nothing marks the turning of the seasons quite like Fall. Beautiful changing colors of foliage, warm days that turn into cooler nights, and if you’re into the festival circuit, CRSSD Festival. People travel far and wide for this wonderfully curated festival, because of it’s beautiful bayside (and pirate ship) scenery, a techno and house lineup that is sometimes hard to come across in the States, and a laid back and relaxed feel that come along with a San Diego vibe brought to you by FNGRS CRSSD.
CRSSD Fest is a favorite for many, so much so that it’s done twice a year at Waterfront Park, which is situated right in front of City Hall with a stage aptly named City Steps, accompanied by a sprawling grass field to hold the masses piling into the main stage called Ocean View, and on the other far end, sparkling and refreshing fountains shoot into an ankle-deep pool of water that refreshes you and your happy dancing feet to the core at the third stage, The Palms, with swaying umbrellas and a mesh roofing that provides just the right amount of shade.
No outside festival with this much sun and surf is complete without drinks, and CRSSD does it just right. With craft beer stalls, a sake bar, and a circular island bar that provided tons of lines, you were always able to grab a drink close by your favorite stage. And don’t forget about the food, with massive slices of pizza, a sushi bar, corn dogs, or sandwiches to die for, people were having mini picnics all around drenched in the sun, with palm trees swaying in the breeze above providing just the right amount of shade.
With so many different types of tech to check out, the choices were great, whether you wanted to go down the techno rabbit hole, two-step with funky tech house, or sway in the breeze with electro-pop. Our compass the first day brought us to a mix of artists including answering Chris Lake’s call at The Palms, finally getting to see Latmun (after his visa didn’t come through in time for the spring edition in March) at City Steps for his signature heavy bass line, Destructo tossing in some west coast hip-hop vibes, and finally closing out with a spectacular set by Dixon at City Steps. The great thing about CRSSD is that although the festival itself covers a lot of ground, it’s very easy to move from stage to stage, picking up on a track walking by that may have you checking out an artist that you didn’t plan on as we did with slipping in seeing Jax Jones, Solardo, and Lane 8 as well.
Starting off the second day, there was no way that we were going to miss Prok & Fitch, with their mix of melodic meets tech heavy beats, the City Steps stage was packed and for a good reason. Prok & Fitch played some fan favorites, including their monster collab with Green Velvet, “Sheeple” which gave the crowd a new energy and had everyone loving life. Following Prok & Fitch was Fisher. The Aussie funny-man took the crowd on quite a ride, and had everyone going nuts when he played his 2017 smash “Ya Kidding.” He made his 45 minute set feel like a straight 2 hour dance party, and was in full control of The Palms dance floor. Back over at the City Steps stage, it was Detlef continued to bring in those wavy tech house vibes. Just after sunset, The Black Madonna kept us guessing what was next, switching between disco, techno, and great old school house vibes. People piled in heavy for her set, and it was clear she was a frontrunner on everyone’s schedule for the day.
It was another great adventure at CRSSD Fest and we can’t wait for the next Spring edition. We’d like to thank everyone at CRSSD and Infamous PR for giving us the privilege to cover another monumental year of CRSSD Fest.
