We remember like it was yesterday. The year was 2009 and flannels, converse, iPod nano’s, and the hit of the year, Owl City’s “Fireflies”, was apart of every mid-2000’s kid’s repertoire. A lot of us have been heavily nostalgic recently and been yearning for something to take us to just the right moment in our memories to provide some bit of relief. The boys of Crystal Skies had the same inkling as well and decided to give us something we didn’t know we needed. The Colorado-based duo has had an incredibly successful past few months with tracks like, “Feels Right” with RUNN, “Nightrider” with Abraxis, and their collab remix with MitiS for Illenium’s “All Together” popping off with millions of streams. On top of all this, we have been getting a lot more of the two thanks to multiple live streams including Global, Riot Games’, and Groove Cruise to name a few.
Crystal Skies couldn’t wait to share their new track, “Collide”, with the world and we got a sneak peak at the Seven Lions Live At The Gorge set hosted by Insomniac. With over 15k viewers catching onto the notes, we have been hoping we could get that release soon. “Collide” finds its inspirations from the Owl City hit, “Fireflies”, but it takes on a life of its own in the ultimate reinvention. Breathy vocals, melancholic strikes of the piano, and a passionate bass immediately bridge the worlds between past and present. We’re built up until we hear, “You and I”, and then we descend into ultimate majestic melody partnered with a sick shredding guitar. Remember that kid waiting on the corner of the bus stop, with cheap headphones pushed so far in their ears, blasting that same song over and over? Yeah, that’s where we are too. When we hear, “We are two satellites just falling out of sight”, we can’t help but feel our hearts squirm and our stomachs flutter because they have captured that angst essence that was so prevalent back then. But it feels so good, like that audio escape we all needed then and that we all need now.
You can join us on having this on a disturbing repeat cycle, with Crystal Skies “Collide” on Spotify and Soundcloud now. Be sure to keep up to date through their socials below, as this is a predecessor for an upcoming EP.
