Crywolf is easily one of my favorite artist in 2015, his musical maturity and evolution as a person and artist has been a fascinating process to watch, to say the least.
The California solo artist, after many critically acclaimed singles releasing week after week, has finally dropped his debut album Cataclasm.
The element that stood out to me the most was the arrangement of the LP. The initial order of tunes will have you thinking it will be an ambient / downtempo / highly melodic experience through and through. Yet, it’s “Anachronism” that marks the turning point in “Cataclasm,” a tune that is bursting at the seems with originality, features near-medicinal level vocal choruses, and surprisingly intense verses here and there.
Watch the making of Cataclasm.
Act Two essentially does the opposite of what the beginning of the album did, it’s showcases a series of heavy tunes then finishes up with a light grouping of tracks boasting acoustic samples and sustain synths.
If you a connoisseur of fine art or brilliant experimental dance music, Cataclasm is going to rock your world, if not, the loads of highly distinct production elements, developed from a producer with a keen sense of music theory, can be appreciated by anyone.
