British producer Curbi has been on the rise now for nearly two years. Perfecting his sound, Curbi began making his own type of house music that would soon become his trade craft. His first hit track was “Discharge”, which gained hundred of thousands of plays on SoundCloud only days after release. The music video would go on to gain over 1.8 million views on Youtube and would gain the attention of notorious deep house producer, Oliver Heldens. At just 16 years old, the young prodigy signed a huge deal with Helden’s home label, Spinnin Records.
Curbi would go on to release his first mixtape in June of 2015 that garnered over 125,000 plays on Soundcloud. Following this mixtape came his second single, “Rubber” that was released on Spinnin Records. The deep track was a hit right out of the gate and gained the support of artists like Diplo, David Guetta, Pete Tong, Oliver Heldens and Michael Calfan. In the summer of 2015, we saw Curbi make his DJ debut at Martin Solveig’s “My House” event at Pacha Ibizia. He would go on to release more remixes and singles including a collaboration with fellow Brit, Fox Stevenson. RaverRafting had the opportunity to talk with Curbi about his latest release and his future plans for 2016:
What initially got you into producing music?
Curbi: I used to play the drums when I was younger, but that just felt like it really wasn’t enough and that I was missing something.. then I found out you could make music on your computer, so I started roaming around online and finding different softwares.
What’s it like to be 17 and signed to a major label?
Curbi: It’s crazy, that’s all I can really say.. it will never stop feeling like that.
Do you think age is an important factor in the music industry in general?
Curbi: Most definitely not.. the majority of people who produce at home in their bedrooms are people my age and younger.
Any reason you decided to start producing deep house specifically? Is sticking to one genre important to you?
Curbi: I never produced just deep house in the first place. When I first started making music I began producing really commercial – pop orientated dance music, then once I improved and made more music I found myself making everything ranging from progressive house to just house. But genres really annoy me now, all I am doing and see myself doing in the future is making my own music with my own sound/style, no genres.
Is there ever an issue if you have to perform at a 21+ club?
Curbi: I don’t think I’ve had to perform at a 21+ club yet, so I cannot say at this moment haha.
Tell me a little bit about your latest release, what exactly went into producing it?
Curbi: “Triple Six”, my newest track.. so as I have been doing more and more shows recently, I noticed the tracks which were working the best were my own ones, specifically the heavier and dirtier ones.. so I thought to myself, why not try and go super heavy and hard, but in my own sound.. then “Triple Six” was born!”
I know you’ve already released an EP, can we expect an album in the future?
Curbi: Yes definitely in the future.. that’s one of my biggest goals.
You exploded into the scene last year, what do you think 2016 has in store?
Curbi: More shows, more music, more fans and more love.
Is there anywhere you really want to perform?
Curbi: Asia and America.
Who are your favorite electronic acts at the moment? Any artists that have influenced you so far?
Curbi: At this moment, I have no idea! But my biggest influences in general would have to be: Darren Styles, Oliver Heldens & Skrillex.
If you could go b2b with any artist, who would it be?
Curbi: Skrillex, for sure!
Anything you want to say to your fans?
Curbi: I love you all, thank you for the support as always.. more music coming soon 🙂
