Yesterday, Dada Life began their route to Miami for an anticipated presence at Winter Music Conference 2013 (not billed to play at Ultra Music Festival this year). The duo unfortunately had their passports seized by Swedish border control for reasons which have yet to be divulged.
They said something about following “standard procedure” when a Swedish citizen should be stopped from leaving the country. They have our passports now and we can’t do anything!
The problem is not that Dada isn’t being allowed into the US, it’s that they are not being permitted to leave Sweden. The situation is in the hands of Swedish authorities and NOT United States Customs. Could this possibly be some kind of backlash regarding their recent “Dada Land as a sovereign state” publicity stunt? It would be ridiculous if so, however, hundreds have gathered around the world to take part in what seemed to be harmless fun (view photos from NYC rally) and I’m sure they have garnered some notice. One can only speculate on the cause for this strange situation.
We will continue to update as more information is available. The good news is they weren’t scheduled to play at Ultra but, you can guarantee the group had plans for a poolside set / after hours rager or two somewhere.
