While the world was busy buzzing about how Random Access Memories was topping the charts, much of it was because of the hype. It goes without saying that Daft Punk’s album was one of the biggest releases of the year across all genres of music.
Here’s a look at week one vs week two.
Most of the album sales are digital, which could have helped because they premiered and did a pre-order through iTunes. Now however the album is available for full streaming on Spotify.
When we asked people if they were still listening to R.A.M. on our Facebook Page, most people replied that they weren’t. The best parts of Random Access Memories like “Giorgio By Moroder” is when it actually sounds like something Daft Punk produced… not Nile Rodgers on the guitar.
I’m addressing this in more detail with a post coming out on Monday (don’t miss it), but the album billed as the savior for dance music has fallen flat with dance music fans and almost completely failed to crossover to the mainstream audience. The crazy thing is… it wasn’t because of the music.
