Daft Punk providing a soundtrack for TRON: Legacy may have been appetizing to some, but we’re all still waiting for a new album (it’s been 7 years since Human After All). However at the interactive conference, South by Southwest, information for the new Daft Punk album was released.
Iconic singer-songwriter Paul Williams (wiki) is working with the duo on the new album somewhere in New York City. Williams is known for producing hits such as Three Dog Night’s “An Old Fashioned Love Song”, Helen Reddy’s “You and Me Against the World”, and the Carpenters’ “We’ve Only Just Begun” and “Rainy Days and Mondays.”
Here’s what Williams had to say to FasterLouder;
“We were just jamming at my house, but it’s gonna be proper and real. They came over to my today around breakfast time and it’s now evening I basically had to almost kick them out. We were having so much fun just in an informal setting that we decided to make it formal. And it’s very formal. It’s gonna be amazing.”
Williams also spoke a little bit more about the duo after the screening of his documentary;
“The way they explore the possibilities of sound. And I’m also totally attracted to the fact that they choose to do it anonymously. I think that’s fantastic.”
While additional specifics about the album were not released, at a SXSW Q&A session Williams hinted that the new Daft Punk Album could be released as early as June 2012 according to the Hollywood Reporter. Daft Punk typically operates with Apple like secrecy, but as soon as we have more information it will be released.
Update: According to Pitchfork there will not be a new Daft Punk album in June.
