Throughout ‘The Collaborators‘ episode five Chilly Gonzales talks about his position when collaborating, artists he’s collaborated with, the power of harmony, his love for the mathematics of music, and more. Toward the middle of the film Gonzales explains how D.P. recruited him to build a musical bridge between different tracks on ‘Random Access Memories‘.
He mentions that the first three tracks – ‘Give Life Back to Music’, ‘The Game of Love’, and ‘Giorgio by Moroder’ – are based in A Minor, before playing us a piece of ‘Giorgio by Moroder’. Chilly also played the the chord progression of track number four, ‘Within’. He explained how used the F Chord in A Minor to transition from the first three tracks to the fourth track.
In my opinion this is by far the most interesting episode of Daft Punk’s ‘The Collaborators’. Chilly Gonzales’ demonstrations and explanations sent chills down my spine. He was on point when he related Daft Punk to a film director, they surely assemble together a cast of collaborations that I can’t wait to experience.
