Japanese culture has always been different to the Western World, but this is just unbelievable. Nightclubs in Japan actually have a “no dancing law” where if you start twerking, they will politely remind you that the behavior is forbidden.
This ridiculous scenario is fast becoming the norm in Japan, where “dancing licenses” are required by law if nightlife joints want the privilege of letting clubbers grind against each other. Even then, doors have to close at the ridiculous hour of midnight or 1AM. – Thump
Somehow they’re able to air TV shows like this, yet dancing in the club is illegal. In May three people were arrested during a full-on raid containing undercover police. Their crime? Operating a nightclub past midnight.
The ban on dancing stems back to a law from 1948 where most establishments that allowed dancing were somehow linked to prostitution. Now that club culture has taken over Tokyo and other cities, the owners are fighting back against the government to get the outdated legislation fixed.
