Born and raised in Toronto, Canada, Daniel Dubb has risen up over the years to become a prominent figure in the underground-House and Techno scene, renowned for adding his own flair to this classic genre. Recently, he has teamed up with Miami-based artist, Jordan Postrel (who goes by the alias of m.O.N.R.O.E) following the release of his fresh new What I Got EP for a grooving new House tune as part of a compilation album by the name of Collection E. Entitled “Colors”, this track is an interesting fusion of each artist’s signature style, which artfully combines powerful bass lines, punchy kicks, and smooth melodies voiced in vibrant synths.
We were fortunate to have asked both Daniel and Jordan a few questions about this tune, their musical influences, as well as their personal music tastes in a RaverRafting exclusive interview, which can be read below. “Colors” can be streamed above via SoundCloud, and can be purchased here on Beatport.
1. Firstly, how did you two meet, and decide to start making music together?
“DANIEL: I first met Jordan almost 4 years ago through a mutual friend while I was playing a show in Miami. After hanging out for a little while, I remember seeing a lot of my younger self in Jordan and his eagerness and passion for music is very similar to mine. I felt the urge to take him on as my Padawan learner I guess you could say.”
2. Your latest tune, “Colors” has received a widely positive response thus far, did you have a particular vision for this collaborative track? Do you feel you guys were able to actualize that vision?
DANIEL: “Jordan and I have always had a vision for the music we are making and with ‘Colors” it’s no different. We have always aimed for that swaggered, dirty hip hop influenced, old school dusty tech house vibe, however Jordan laidd down that stuttered out vox lead that I think really gave it that sound that influenced Nic Fanciulli to sign it to Saved, I’d like to think it some how on a subconscious level reminded Nic of his “Skylark/Buick Project” days.”
3. Do you guys have similar tastes in music, or do you prefer different genres? How has that affected the music that you make together?
JORDAN: “Daniel and I do have similar taste in music and usually our heads are in the same place when we’re making music.”
4. Your music is an interesting conglomeration of genres and styles. Do you draw inspiration from non-electronic genres?
JORDAN: “Yes all the time, we’re both into 90’s hip-hop. We sample that shit hard.”
DANIEL: “As Jordan was saying, we have pulled inspiration from so many different things from Hip Hop to Funk, Motown even things as far across the spectrum as old prison recordings, I don’t think it has to come from any specific place, we just try to find things that have really cool textures and try to make them work in a way that fits our musical style. It’s really one of the exciting aspects when we are making music to try and find things you wouldn’t think could be reworked into electronic music and find that way to make it special”
5. Where do you guys see yourselves in 5 years?
JORDAN: “Touring, doing our own parties, signing other artist, training Dolphins. All the normal stuff DJs do.”
