On January 17th, promotion company Evolve Group brought Dash Berlin to a sold-out crowd at club Roxy in Orlando, Florida. Dash Berlin had recently played in Orlando for the city’s iteration of EDC and no one expected him to make such a quick return. We recently featured an article detailing how Evolve Group is innovating the EDM market in Orlando and this show only proved that they have no intention of stopping.
Despite the freezing temperatures outside club Roxy, opening DJ Phoenix Jaggar warmed everyone up for an unforgettable night. As opposed to sticking to big-room drops or trance anthems, Jaggar played a variety of classic house, trap, and nudisco tunes. The crowd could not help but dance to the eclectic set, which delved into everything from 70’s disco to west coast hip-hop. Phoenix Jaggar subverted the traditional notions of an opening DJ and inspired everyone to dance early into the night.
Next up, esteemed trance producer Jochen Miller graced the decks and showcased his trance/progressive house fusion. Naysayers would normally critique a trance artist for mixing trance with other genres but Miller proved how crucial the ability can be with his crowd response. As he progressed from club favorites to uplifting trance tracks, the crowd went back and forth in its reciprocation. A drop necessitated jumping and dancing while melodic trance chords compelled everyone to hold their hands up and sway to the rhythms. By the end of Jochen Miller’s set, the crowd sprawled to the doors and people chanted for Dash Berlin.
After a teasing video directly catered to Orlando, the man himself manned the decks to a screaming crowd. Hands reached for the front, signs adorned with song lyrics attempted to catch his eye, and tears flowed from the opening notes of his “If I Lose Myself” remix. Playing everything from several I.D.’s to favorites such as “Steal You Away” and “Till The Sky Falls Down”, Dash Berlin sustained his lengthy three-hour set by making the crowd cry and dance (sometimes even simultaneously). An unexpected hardstyle remix of “Til The Sky Falls Down” finished the set with dual energy and emotion.
The Orlando crowd definitely lives up to its reputation. It was an amazing sight to see the unparalleled synergism of the crowd and performer. By the end of the three hour set, people were still craving for more music; the familiar hums of his most famous tracks were heard among the attendees as they exited the club. For the crowd to support a constant energy and appreciation of the music proved to me how deep the dedication of the Orlando trance family runs.
Evolve exhibited no sense of restraint in holding the show. From a perfect balance of sound level to multifaceted lighting, the production served as a perfect companion to the music throughout the night. Club Roxy gave the crowd a variety of options, from a shoulder-to-shoulder pit area to a spacious bar section.
Evolve efficiently brought a headlining trance act and two fantastic opening DJs to a sold-out club with wonderful results. Trance dominated the night and its quintessential principles guided the energy of the crowd; it was truly a night Orlando will never forget.
