An increasingly prominent figure in the dance music scene, Dave Edwards has become renowned for his consistent deliverance of unique, inventive, and creative remixes and mashups. Accordingly, many electronic music fans may recall his jaw-dropping Avicii/Daft Punk mashup, which seamlessly fused “Dear Boy” with the iconic “Harder Better Faster Stronger”, as well as his remix of Sultan + Ned Shepard’s “All These Roads“.
Earlier this week, Dave Edwards dropped yet another stunning remix, this time of The Chainsmokers’ melodic hit tune, “Kanye” (Ft. SirenXX). Characteristic of his signature style, this remix cleverly plays upon elements of the original, resulting in a smooth, grooving Progressive House track, which can be streamed above. Fans should also be looking forward to next week, when Dave plans to drop yet another striking remix of Night Terrors of 1927 + Tegan and Sara.
Having demonstrated his proficiency with remixing time, and again, Dave Edwards obliged to share a handful of tips for aspiring producers and dance music aficionados on how to assemble a top-notch remix:
1. The best remixes start with great songs
“The better written an original song is, the easier it is to make a great remix around it. Sam Smith is a great example of this – its just hard to make his vocals sound bad. This is especially true for pop songs or EDM songs with poppy vocals. The best songs tend to have the best topliners, best vocal producers, and best songwriters all involved in the process – so you have better material to work with. This isn’t at all to say you should only remix stuff that’s top 10 on Billboard, by any means. Plenty of indie songs have great songwriters and vocals. Better vocal harmonies and toplines will make your job a lot easier.”
