French DJ David Guetta has joined with the United Nations and international aid organizations in support of “The World Needs More___” campaign through his new video for ‘One Voice’ (feat. Mikky Ekko). The goal of this campaign is to raise funds for humanitarian emergencies by enabling corporations to sponsor a word that they believe the world could use more of. Guetta himself has chosen to sponsor #Love, and other companies like Western Union (#Education), Barclays (#Inclusion), Gucci (#Strength), and others have joined as well. Each time #theworldneedsmore and #yourword is shared through Twitter or the campaign’s website www.theworldneedsmore.org, $1 will be donated to aid efforts who face severe shortages in funding (such as the efforts to ease the suffering of Typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines, which is what Guetta’s video is being used to raise funds for).
The video for “One Voice” was officially debuted on November 22nd, using the United Nations Headquarters building in New York City as a projector screen. The event was broadcasted in real time using LiveStream on Guetta’s Facebook page, and after the video was debuted an interactive Twitter page was displayed to track the progress of #theworldneedsmore.
While Guetta remains a somewhat controversial figure in the dance music world (due to his various collaborations with mainstream pop artists), it’s very nice to see him using his status to promote and support a cause like this. Regardless of what one’s opinion of David Guetta might be, now is not the time to let personal feelings get in the way of something that could really use the support of the entire electronic music family.
As a community founded on the values of Peace, Love, Unity, and Respect, we must do our best to support humanitarian aid efforts for those less fortunate than ourselves. Our community has the ability to do extraordinary things when we work together as one collective group, and by supporting the “The World Needs More___” campaign and their goal of providing funds to the world’s most underfunded crises, we can show the world that we aren’t the drugged-out zombies many people perceive us to be.
This campaign has been extended until December 31 of this year, which leaves plenty of time for us to offer our support and raise as much money as possible. As stated previously, all it takes is a tweet with #theworldneedsmore followed by one of the sponsored words (for example, #theworldneedsmore #love), and each tweet raises $1 for humanitarian efforts in desperate need of funding.
