David Guetta at Electric Zoo 2012 Pictures
Admittedly I have skipped David Guetta’s sets in favor of seeing other artists, but at Electric Zoo I decided to go away from my regular routine and see DJ Mag’s #1. Guetta had the showmanship, fireworks and pop influences that you would expect to see in his set. Choosing to start with the Alesso remix of Titanium Guetta drew the crowd in before the lull in action when everyone seemed lost in tracks they were unfamiliar with. Main stage crowds always have a problem of being filled with people who are more excited about the name they are seeing than the music.
It didn’t last for long as Guetta eventually roared back with Afrojack’s Rock The House, Ingrosso & Tommy Trash’s Reload before digging into remixes of some of his pop music productions. Towards the end of his set I was dancing in glee to Guetta & Avicii’s Sunshine mixed in with a bit of the vocals from Florence and The Machine’s Spectrum. I may have even joined the crowd with my best Usher imitation, but I don’t think you can prove it.
Even if you’re not a fan of a particular style of dance music, a good dj can still blow you away. On Friday night that was definitely not David Guetta. You’ll have to fast forward to Saturday’s set by Axwell.
