If you think planning to go to an event is difficult, imagine planning the event itself. From the vendors to the venue and everything in between, event producers spend months preparing for not only the best possible experience but also the worst. Tackling your first event in and of itself is no easy feat and for Decibel Entertainment, they went one step further by hosting it on a cruise ship.
The mere thought of all the possible scenarios that could occur when putting a bunch of young drunk people on a boat is enough to make most event planners turn and run, but not Ryan Monostori. Taking the helm at Decibel Entertainment, Monostori spearheaded Bass on the Bay with the help of his team and the result was a flawless voyage on the Pacific.
With ticket prices set at just $100 for VIP (which included open bar) and a strong lineup of talented local artists – Decibel Entertainment’s first event was primed for success. For the safety of their passengers and their liquor license, the age limit was a firm 21+ but fortunately that seemed to have little affect on attendance. The voyage sold just shy of The Spirit of Norfolk’s full capacity and left enough room for attendees to cruise comfortably.
Many have their reservations about attending an event held by a company they don’t know. Concerns arise regarding safety, crowd control, the people, the music, etc… At the average event you can leave whenever you want if things aren’t going as you had hoped, but on a boat your exits are blocked on all sides. The pressure for Decibel Entertainment to deliver was high, but they came through and even exceeded our expectations.
The guest list and will call was managed impeccably. Ticket holders made a smooth transition from the front desk to security, which kept the lines down. Then security maintained professionalism at their initial check point before boarding and throughout the trip without becoming overbearing. The bar kept the drinks flowing all night and for those who reached their fill there were plenty of free water stations.
Vendors offered a colorful selection of neon toys and glow sticks for party people to enjoy onboard or if you fancied a more relaxing ride, there was also a massage table available on the ship. At the soft touch of two talented masseuses, you could let go of your worries and drift off into peaceful waters.
Not a moment passed where it seemed like guests were disappointed with their night. The music selection was perfect for the event, beginning with deep house on one deck as we boarded and some low bass heavy dubstep on another, then setting sail to the high energy beats of DJ Iris. The party continued with Buku delivering his quintessential blend of hip hop and synth as we returned to the dock, eventually leading up to DJ 2Rip closing out the night with a bang.
Overall I couldn’t ask for a better experience. The price was right, the people were friendly, the music was loud and the drinks were tasty. With the huge accolade following their first venture into event planning, I can only hope that Decibel Entertainment’s next voyage will be soon.
