UK based house and techno label Defected sat down with German DJ Loco Dice a year ago. An unlikely pair, with both having different styles, yet the two were able to find middle ground as they both have been promoting the best in house and techno for over a decade. Eventually Defected asked Loco to do a mix; the result is Loco Dice In The House. A two and a half hour compilation, it features a wide variety of house and techno tracks from around the world. Loco Dice explains the mix himself:
“Defected is one of the labels that have always been in my record box” he says. “I have an entire section dedicated to them in my collection and I grew up with the label’s history. I think what they’re doing at the moment with combining a lot of different styles and bringing together a diverse range of artists is great. Defected has the freedom to do this, unlike a lot of labels. Of course I knew the name Simon [Dunmore] for years but we never had the chance to meet. Then last year at IMS Simon just sat down to talk to me; initially it wasn’t about business, just music. Eventually he asked me if I could do something for Defected, with as much freedom as I needed. For me it’s a great opportunity, and I always take compilations so seriously, as seriously as I would an album. I’m so happy with the results.”
The result is an extremely well-crafted mix of songs perfect for getting up and partying or kicking back and relaxing. Containing everything from pure house such as Robert Dietz “Common” to darker tracks like Skudge’s “Convolution” and even four unreleased tracks from Dice’s own label Desolat, Loco Dice has everything your looking for. This mix has surely grown on me the more I listen- smooth, crisp percussion, rolling basslines and flawless transitions make this an exquisite compilation mix.
