“Everybody make it bounce!” These words blare right before VINAI & TJR’s collaboration, “Bounce Generation.” Melbourne bounce and Dutch house have played integral roles in the evolution of big room dance music with the genre’s natural tendency to spark fans into dancing and jumping to the infectious beats. Dutch DJ/producer, Chuckie, was one of the first movers of the genre, but with time, a new generation of bounce commanders came into the light – most notably LA-based Deorro. Deorro started his career jumping off of Chuckie’s established role in the scene and has carved his own alcove in EDM culture.
Deorro’s distinct sound can be credited for his rise to the top of festival bills and Beatport’s top 10. The Mexican-born producer is loved by many for his galvanizing drops that fuse together elements from Melbourne bounce, Dutch house, progressive house, electro, and more. Cutting vocals and horns to keep his creations fresh, Deorro has begun a modern movement in bounce.
In 2013, Erick Orroquieta made his way into the sets of the world’s top DJs, such as Hardwell and Nicky Romero, at the acclaimed Tomorrowland with his original smash, “Yee.” The song quickly rose up the charts to #1 on the Beatport Overall chart when signed to Hardwell’s Revealed Recordings and followed as a staple of Tomorrowland 2013.
Since then, Deorro has become a pioneer, curator, and world-class DJ/producer with hundreds of live performances, a myriad of remixes, and inspiring originals like “Five Hours” and “Dechorro.” But with the immense amount of competition in the big room soundscape, what differentiates Deorro from the atypical producer? It comes back to his trademark bounce style.
Many DJs use melodies, hard-hitting synths, and many more musical ingredients to stand out amongst the crowd. Bounce has this natural energy already programmed into it. Combined with the energy of big room house structure, Deorro created a lethal weapon. Every set he performs keep the crowd’s spirits at their peak for hours at a time. Bounce was the niche that Deorro saw himself filling and has created his own brand and place in the musical landscape by staying true to his roots.
Back in May 2014, Deorro announced that he would be “quitting DJing” and many fans feared he would fall from the reputation he had built from nothing. This is far from the truth. Although he will be cutting back on the touring, Deorro is sure to continue his adrenaline-activating sets with upcoming gigs like Coachella 2015, and he will have more time to produce next level music. The bounce will continue to thrive and it’s captain will continue steering the ship.
Deorro’s latest release, the Boombox EP, is available on iTunes.
