After Swedish House Mafia’s last live performance at this past years Ultra Musical Festival, two-thirds of the trio, Axwell and Sebastian Ingrosso, announced plans to depart for the most reputable EDM destination on this planet, Ibiza. The small Spanish island in the Mediterranean Sea is the premier summer travel destination for many of the big name DJs as well as their fans from all over the world. The Ibiza International Airport handles approximately 85% of its annual passenger volume during the summer months. With Axwell and Sebastian Ingrosso setting up shop for the summer, that number was only bound to increase.
Every Wednesday from June to September Axwell and Seb Ingrosso assembled and put on a remarkable performance. After playing together for eight years the two have mastered the art of musical duets. Now, given the ability to hone in on their own personal skillset, they can play off one another, back to back, to give the crowd nothing but a full night of pulse pumping beats. More than their backgrounds leading to good collaboration, their history together brings a special feeling to the atmosphere. Working together as a group to achieve the goals they did and reach the heights every young artist dreams about, their chemistry and bond are easily seen and felt throughout a show together.
Their most frequented guest was Alesso. A used-to-be prodigy found by Seb Ingrosso himself who is now among the top DJs of the world and is also a longtime friend. Their list of guests didn’t stop there. Names such as Zedd, Tommy Trash, Otto Knows, and Thomas Gold stopped by to throw down the biggest Wednesday night party on the island and most likely around the world.
As the summer comes to a close so does Departures. This Wednesday will be their last performance and is expected to be quite the sendoff for the Swedish duo. Now we all can sit back and wait to see what is in store for the crew for the rest of 2013.
