Devault & Team EZY Join Forces To Create The Twisted Hybrid Track “My Own”

The young 20 year old producer from Orange County, Devault, and OWSLA artist Team EZY, have banded together to deliver “My Own”. This darker, twister hybrid track about broken love blends the energy of Devault’s style, while remaining true to TEAM EZY’s sound we all know and love. You can expect ethereal vocals, as well as warped distant pianos, distorted violin strings, and builds packed with energy.

RaverRafting had the amazing opportunity to talk with Devault and find more out about “My Own” and part of his thoughts and workflow. Check out the exclusive interview with him below!

How did a collab between the both of you come about?

The collab honestly came from Twitter DM’s. I sent Team EZY over a few ideas and we were mutual fans of each other’s music. We decided to get in the studio in LA and we vibed really well on the idea of “My Own”. Nothing seemed forced at all with it. It’s always nice getting in the studio and becoming really comfortable with the person you’re working with.

Would you say you were both able to intertwine your own sound into the track?

There is definitely glimpses of both our sound in this. EZY’s ear to create a full, well rounded story really worked well with my emotive sound design.

What was the process like working together? How was the work split-up?

The creative process with Team EZY was definitely new to me as my past collabs were done online. With EZY, we did about three sessions in LA and would first spitball a ton of creative ideas to one up the track and then take turns jamming out. That way we could both feel an equal attachment for the song.

Where do you turn for inspiration in creating music that’s different then the norm?

A lot of the time I find inspiration by sitting with my peers and spending a few hours writing darker melodies, analyzing photographs, or watching creative music videos. I’m blessed to have friends that have an eye/ear for breaking creative boundaries. Musically, I’ve been super into music of the 80’s and finding my emotive style deriving from artists like Depeche Mode.

Do you ever get discouraged when experimenting with different sounds and worry about if it will be accepted or not?

At first, I was very worried, but as I’ve grown as a musician I’ve realized that as long as the sounds, structure, and feel make sense to me before anyone else then there should be no reason to be discouraged. Everyone has a unique story to tell and finding new ways to tell that story will only help your audience really understand the person behind the music.

Are there any rituals that always find their way into a studio session?

Coffee and Water seem to always be present.

What’s your DAW of choice and a go-to plugin?

Ableton and at the moment I’m loving Synplant.
